Upward Bound tutorial program has had a successful first year. Students received free tutoring on Tuesday-Thursdays from 4-6p.m. on the campus of Kentucky State University. Tutoring was offered in a variety of subjects including Math, Science, English, and Spanish. Students such as Jillian Barnes, Kyle Lightfoot, and Skylier Hockensmith saw significant improvements in their grades due to their tutorial attendance and hard work. In addition to tutoring, students also received mentoring in their academics, social skills, and study skills. Eboney Johnson, current tutor/mentor, thoroughly enjoyed the mentoring sessions with the students and believed they were inspired. Upward Bound will continue to find new and successful ways to enrich students academically.

I would also like to thank each of the parents for being courteous when I make phone calls. I know sometimes it can be nerve- wrecking but I am calling to make sure everything in our office runs effectively and efficiently. I appreciate your time and consideration and look forward to working with you and your child during the summer program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at anytime. I am always happy to assist you.
Franklin County High School Junior, Christopher Murphy, was selected by the Upward Bound staff to attend TRIO programs 20th Annual National Student Leadership Congress. Students selected to participate in this event will travel to Washington D.C. and reside on the campus of American University. Participants will also attend a mock congressional session, visit various cultural, historical sites, and attend workshops. Chris was selected by the UB staff because of his academic achievement, leadership development, and overall growth during his junior year. Each year Upward Bound will select an outstanding, dedicated Upward Bound student to attend the conference. Good Job Chris!
