Comprehensive Academic Program Review Process (SB 185)

FACTS

KY 2026 SB 185 requires a comprehensive academic program review of up to ten academic areas of study.

DESCRIPTION

The team presented a structured, data-driven process to review academic programs aligned with Senate Bill 185 requirements, focusing on transparency, workforce demand, and polytechnic integration. Additionally, Kentucky State University team presented the definition of “Areas of Study” and “Polytechnic” to the Council on Postsecondary team members. The enclosed items are highlights of the presentation and the elements discussed in the CPE and KSU collaborative meeting, as well as the academic program review process.

The review process was a four phased approach to reviewing all academic programs. The process included deans, chairs, faculty, students, staff, and two facilitators. The goal was to identify programs to discontinue, continue, or adjust. Once determined, KSU will align all academic programs, making any necessary adjustments to the Polytechnic definitions and the areas of study. Teach-out planning to be completed by the deadline of June 1st for CPE Board meeting.
