IV. Presentation by Dr. Aaron Thompson, president of the Council for Post-Secondary Education.
Dr. Thompson said as they looked at Senate Bill 185, they wanted to make sure that they had in place a healthy athletic program.
Dr. Thompson said they are aware that there are several positions they want to hire and once they approve the budget on Friday and they have a master list, they will crosswalk it and move forward as fast as they can.
Dr. Thompson said CPE wants to make sure the university is in compliance with Title 9 and all matters when it comes to athletics.
He mentioned that Senate Bill 185 asks them to look at, discern and approve expenditures that's $20,000 and over. He said that CPE always had control over programs anyway and that's not something Senate Bill 185 gave them. He said they have that authority in statute.
Dr. Thompson said CPE's goal for athletics is to look at any expenditures that they have for any positions or anything else and once validated by the budget, they can move on it. The second thing is to make sure that all items are in compliance.
Regent Obielodan thanked Dr. Thompson for standing in the gap for KSU.
Dr. Thompson said they want to work in conjunction with the Board and with the leadership to ensure that KSU stays on track and stays viable.
Dr. Thompson said he would like to have an update sometimes on the movement of the money that they got for KSU and further elaborated on his comments. Dr. Akakpo and Chair Dukes responded.
