Item Number 1:Item Name: 70 acres of Farmland (Woodford County)Estimated or Actual Cost: $1,600,000.00
Estimated Useful Life in years: IndefiniteThis expense supports the acquisition of approximately 70 acres of farmland located at 4119 W. Leestown Road, Midway, Kentucky 40347, in Woodford County, for the expansion of Kentucky State University’s (KSU) Land Grant Program. The acquisition is critical to the continued growth and advancement of KSU’s animal science, horticulture, agronomy, and agricultural research programs. The addition of this property will provide essential space for students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders to conduct applied research, demonstrations, experiments, and field activities related to livestock production and management, animal science practices, crop production, forestry, and water and soil quality research. KSU currently operates a research and demonstration farm in Frankfort, Kentucky, which supports livestock, specialty and row crop production, forestry, and other agricultural research initiatives. However, the existing facility has reached its operational capacity and can no longer adequately support the increasing demand for research, instructional, and outreach activities. Acquisition of the Woodford County property will significantly enhance the University’s research and educational capabilities, particularly in livestock management, breeding, and crop production, while strengthening service to Kentucky’s agricultural community and stakeholders. This expense supports the 2021–2025 Plan of Work by advancing the research priorities outlined on pages 7 and 8 under the sections titled “Agricultural, Environment and Natural Resources” and “Small Farm Development.”Comments: Extension; Accession Number: 100% Research; Accession Number: 7002196 FOAP:
