IV. Athletics Updates by Athletic Director Grant Stepp.
AD Grant said athletics overall GPA is at a 3.0 for the fall semester, which makes two consecutive semesters of having a 3.0 overall.
A. Scheduling.
Both the men's and women's basketball teams are not where they want them to be record-wise, but are in contention for the SIAC championship.
As for indoor track, in a couple of weeks they will be hosting the SIAC Indoor Championship in Louisville.
Men's volleyball is one game under 500 right now, which is an improvement from last year.
Softball and baseball haven't had the opportunity to play the games they are supposed to play because of the weather.
Golf will get into some competitions as soon as they can get out and start practicing.
Weight room. One of the big projects they are working on is renovating the weight room. They did receive a donation from alum, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Green, towards renovating the weight room.
Staff. AD Stepp said they hired a new trainer, Mark Perdue, and he is the second school trainer.
AD Stepp said David Morton, who is the head softball coach, has picked up extra responsibilities as an associate athletic director to assist with the game day operations.
Coach Imani Williams, who is the women's basketball coach, has assumed the role of their SWA.
Ramon Johnson, who is the track coach, is going to help with enrollment and retention from an athletic standpoint.
Scholarship allotment. AD Stepp said the football allotment of scholarships has increased for the second year and the benefits were seen this past season.
AD Stepp said they are doing the same thing with the band and are recruiting in Ohio so that hopefully there will be 150 kids in the band in the fall.
Regent Fields asked if Coach Williams' position is compliance. AD Stepp said she's assisting with compliance, but she is SWA, which is senior women's administrator. AD Stepp said it's not a true position, but it's more of a title that's usually with someone that's a full-time employee.
Regent Moseley asked for dates for the SIAC Indoor Championship, which AD Stepp said is February 18-19.
