b. Existing Flooding

One of the driving factors for this project is the flooding experienced from the recent hurricane events. The overtopping of SR 72, caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017, was previously analyzed at this intersection under the Technical Memorandum “Hurricane Irma Flooding Concern on SR 72” by The Balmoral Group. For Hurricane Ian, roadway overtopping of both SR 72 and SR 70 was observed. Refer to Figure 8 and Figure 9 for photos from Hurricane Ian.
