Robert Redington -225 North Hope Chapel- Mr. Redington currently serves as Secretary to the Board of Fire Commissioners District 2. This project has been underway for some time - the creation of a new Fire Station in town. He’d liked to thank the Township councilmen very much for this approval, particularly Vice President Flemming. Stated this will be a structure that will bring greater Fire protection into the Township to the district in particular for the Cassville Fire Company. They have outgrown the Fire Station on Toms River Road although it is still useful, still viable; the Firefighters are still responding out of it. He stated as time marches forward, the creation of a new Fire Station truly is necessary and the acquisition of this property from the Township will reduce the financial burden on the taxpayers of the town. Once again he thanked the Council for this project for moving it along and stated he won’t let them down; there will be a nice Fire Station in the future.
Paul Joyce- 217 W. Veterans Highway- He had some concerns about the property and the way the firehouse is going to be built, because there is not much road frontage there, it is going to be a big building. Mr. Joyce understands that it has 12 acres but it runs down along the park.
Council Vice President Flemming stated he cannot speak for the Board of Fire Commissioners as he is no longer a commissioner. He does know that the station is going to be set back off the road. Mr. Joyce asked what the setback would be. Council Vice President Flemming stated that there are no architectural plans as of yet, but he expected it to be 400 or 500 feet off the road. It will also have to meet all of the setback requirements that the Township has in its ordinances; it's going to have to meet Pinelands, stated it is going to have things that we'll have to meet. He invited Mr. Joyce to join and be part of it. Council Vice President Flemming stated that Mr. Joyce can get more information from the Fire Commissioners. They have a meeting on the second Thursday of every month at the Miller Road Fire Station. Do realize that this is still infancy; there are no architectural and there are no bonds in place. It is going to be unfortunately a little while but if you want input that's where you want to go. Mr. Joyce stated he is also thinking about $3 million on the taxpayers. Council Vice President Flemming stated he doubts it will be a $3 million building. He stated the district is a little bit more frugal than that.
