Jackson Township Council Meeting of July 27, 2021

Jackson historically has been incredibly light in having representation at the County despite being the largest in land mass in the County. Last year we lobbied and worked to get an appointment to the Ocean County Land Trust with Council Vice President Flemming. It's important that Jackson be represented at the County and that we understand what services are available for residents of Jackson and that we have somebody who's fighting for Jackson to get those services here in town. Council President Kern will do that. As far as he could tell, it's the first time ever we've had two sitting Councilmen represent us in a Board or at a Board within the County.
Also, this weekend he had the honor to represent the Mayor and Council at his 2nd Scout Eagle Court of Honor, the second in three weeks, for Scouts Michael Pfremmer, Jonathon Ricciardi and Jonah Tartza. All three made Eagle Scout, which is an incredible accomplishment. Less than 4 percent of Scouts make that achievement. This is the 7th Scout in the last month and a half from Troop 204. He was in Scouts and he knows how hard it is to become an Eagle. To have 7 in the last 2 months speaks to the volunteers and to the parents are in that troop. He congratulated them on a great Jackson story and community item.
COUNCIL VICE PRESIDENT FLEMMING- Stated as well as being able to serve on the Council, he has the pleasure of being on our Planning Board and in that capacity he does get to hear many land use cases. Some of them are of very little consequence, except the people who are actually involved in separating a piece of property to create a piece of property for the son or daughter; some of them are a lot more controversial either way.
Every application that comes before us or the Zoning Board of Adjustment creates change. The longer you’ve been in town, the more change you’ve seen. Some change is good, some change is great, some is not so good, but change is inevitable. Stated that one of our former Zoning Officers, Bill Fox, told him a long time ago and it has stuck with him that Jackson is a fantastic place, a great place to live but one of our biggest issues is that everyone that comes here wants to be the last person in the door. It is a great and powerful statement; he would like to add his own caveat to that when the early major influx of population came into town in the late 50s early 60s it seemed to him to be especially looking back with the amount of people that he’s met in business and what he has done in town that the new people come in and seem to want to leave congestion behind and slow down and meet the Jackson that they found. Slowly that has changed over the years. Instead of wanting to just join the sleepy little town that we were for years it seemed like everyone wanted to bring all of the congestion from up north with them. Now that’s happened and the yearning for what we used to have is there. You see it in people that have been here for more than a few months; unfortunately, change just like time keeps moving and there’s nothing we could do about that.
COUNCIL PRESIDENT KERN- Absent.
