Weekly food waste collections are coming this autumn
From 26 October 2026.
households* across Wolverhampton will receive a free weekly food waste collection service. You will be able to put out uneaten and unwanted food for collection, including scraps, peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds and eggshells.
Before collections start, households will receive:
Kitchen caddy – a small indoor caddy with a roll of liners and tag to request replacement liners.
Outdoor caddy – a larger, lockable caddy for weekly collection.
Information leaflet – a guide explaining how the service works and what can be collected.
Collections will take place weekly on your usual collection day** and will use a separate collection vehicle.
Why is this happening?
New legislation requires all councils to provide food waste collections. Government funding has been provided to support this.
What are the benefits?
Food waste collections can:
Reduce household bin smells as weekly collections keep things fresher.
Help you to save money by wasting less food.
Turn leftovers and scraps into green energy and fertiliser.
Look out for your food waste caddy and information pack arriving before the service starts.
* If you use shared bins, your food waste collections will begin at a later date. We will let you know before your service starts.
**A small number of households may have a different collection day, and these residents will be contacted in advance.
