ROADWAY REALIGNMENT
State Road (S.R.) 50 from Villa City Road (C.R. 565) to Second Avenue
Lake County
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is constructing a new four-lane roadway to realign State Road (S.R.) 50 from Villa City Road (County Road (C.R.)) 565 to Second Avenue.
CONTRACTOR CWR Contracting, Inc.
S.R. 50 splits into one-way segments through downtown Groveland, with westbound traffic traveling along W. Broad Street and eastbound traffic traveling along W. Orange Street. The 2.1-mile realignment will move S.R. 50 north of downtown Groveland. Once construction is complete, W. Broad Street and W. Orange Street will become city streets.
PROJECT COST $26.8 million
Requested by the City of Groveland, the project will reroute a significant amount of heavy-truck traffic away from downtown, enhancing the area's livability and walkability.
The South Lake Trail will also be extended from Second Avenue westward along the new roadway to Villa City Road, just east of Groveland. Several intersection improvements are planned. New Park & Ride amenities, including 66 parking spaces, will also be added south of the new roadway east of Rice Court and north of Crittenden Street.
PROJECT START September 2026
ESTIMATED COMPLETION Summer 2028
All new curbs and curb ramps will be constructed to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

During construction, motorists can expect nighttime single-lane closures along each roadway, as follows:
Motorists should anticipate areas of uneven pavement within the project limits, a common condition during construction when the contractor applies multiple asphalt layers in phases. These roadway conditions are temporary and will improve gradually as the project progresses.
