AWARD FOR LIFETIME OF NURSING EXCELLENCE
Denise Dye, lecturer in Community Nursing in the University's School of Health & Life Sciences, has received the title of Queen's Nurse from the Queen's Nursing Institute (QNI).
The QNI grants the honorary title of Queen's Nurse to community nurses who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to patient care and improving nursing practice as leaders and role models.
Denise started her nursing career as a cardiology nurse, before becoming a substance misuse nurse in a female prison. She became a community staff nurse and sister before qualifying as a SPQDN specialist practitioner in district nursing at Teesside University.
‘Being able to combine teaching with my knowledge from practice is a dream role,’ said Denise.
Nieve Morrison went from creating marketing plans for a national bakery chain during her degree to a new role which has already seen her working with international pop stars. Nieve, 22, from Stockton, graduated this year with a first class BA (Hons) Marketing and is now a major events and project co-ordinator at Sunderland AFC. In the first few months of her job, she was involved in the behind-the-scenes organisation of major music concerts by pop megastars Beyoncé and Pink.

During her degree at Teesside University International Business School, Nieve spent time on placement with Resolution Media and Publishing, where she worked as marketing officer for the Power of Women (POW) campaign, which is dedicated to raising the aspirations of young women across the Tees Valley. Nieve said: ‘I had some amazing lecturers who really helped me during the degree and made me think about the career path I wanted to take. I also received support in arranging a placement. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.’
Nieve also praised the University’s facilities, including the library, which she described as “a great space” especially in the lead up to deadlines.
‘One major highlight during my degree was presenting to Greggs and developing a marketing plan for their business,’ she said.
‘I really enjoyed working on the live projects, especially with Greggs.
