Employees may be eligible for disability payments in accordance with New York State requirements for a non-work-related illness or injury. An employee who is disabled due to non-work-related injuries or illnesses and expects to be out of work for 7 days or more must contact the Human Resources Department (within 30 days of disability) to file a claim. Failure to file a claim may result in a loss or denial of benefits. It is the employees' responsibility to initiate a disability claim.
New full-time, part-time, and per diem employees begin accruing New York Paid Sick Leave upon hire at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 56 hours annually. After a full-time employee's first year of employment, paid sick leave is included within the employee's existing PTO. Upon an employee's request, Payroll will provide a summary of the employee's accrued and used sick leave within three business days. Employees may request to use up to 56 hours of accrued sick leave annually, orally or in writing, for the purposes listed below. Questions should be directed to Human Resources.
When an employee uses New York Paid Sick Leave for three or more consecutive scheduled workdays or shifts, AIM may request documentation confirming that the leave was used for an authorized purpose, to the extent permitted by law. AIM will not require disclosure of confidential medical information or details concerning domestic violence, a sexual offense, stalking, or human trafficking. Suspected misuse will be reviewed based on the available facts and addressed in accordance with applicable law and AIM policy.
