Paid Prenatal Leave is available for 20 hours during each applicable 52-week period, beginning when the employee first uses the leave. Unused hours do not carry over to the next 52-week period.
New York Human Rights Law prevents employment discrimination against victims of crime, including domestic violence for taking time off from work to go to court; consult with a district attorney, counselor and/or doctor; obtain an order of protection; and recuperate from injuries. Employees are entitled to use their paid time off for the above purposes.
An employee who is a registered voter and does not have four consecutive hours to vote either before the employee’s shift begins or after it ends may take the amount of working time needed to vote, with up to two hours paid. Unless AIM and the employee agree otherwise, the leave will be taken at the beginning or end of the employee’s shift, as designated by AIM. The employee must notify AIM not fewer than two and not more than ten working days before the election.
All personal leaves of absence are granted at AIM’s discretion and are not guaranteed. A personal leave is unpaid and is not job-protected unless another law or AIM policy applies. Employees must request and use available benefit time before beginning an unpaid personal leave, unless prohibited by law. Requests should be submitted in writing to Human Resources at least 30 days before the requested leave when practicable; AIM may consider emergencies or other extenuating circumstances. Leaves exceeding 30 days will be reviewed for possible extension. An unpaid personal leave may adjust the employee’s anniversary or benefit date by the number of unpaid days. Employees may be responsible for the full cost of applicable benefit premiums when a personal leave exceeds seven days. Unless continued under COBRA or another applicable requirement, benefits will end on the last day of the month in which the personal leave begins.
AIM will provide blood-donation leave in accordance with New York Labor Law and applicable Department of Labor guidance. Eligible employees may take three hours of unpaid leave during a twelve-month period to donate blood off premises or may participate in qualifying AIM-sponsored donation opportunities. Employees should provide notice and proof of donation as permitted by law. AIM will not retaliate against or assess attendance penalties against an employee for protected blood-donation leave.
Change in status/position may affect benefits if it results in a change in the employee category. Benefits are earned based on continuous employment in a category (part time/full time, etc.), or position.
In compliance with Workers' Compensation regulations, the agency maintains insurance coverage which may include payments for medical and/or other related expenses for employees' time loss from work, who are eligible as a result of job connected accidents or illness.
Employees must immediately report every work-related injury or illness to their supervisor, AIM On-Call, or Human Resources. For each occurrence, the employee must complete a Staff Injury Report and submit it to their supervisor.
