Purpose Question Assessment
Question 1C: Does the land include uses or proposed developments that are incompatible with the Green Wedge policy. Answer 1C: No. The land is mainly a mix of vegetated open space, play area, arable use and for the grazing of horses and other livestock. There is a car park associated with Narborough train station however this is a compatible use within the Green Wedge as it is transport infrastructure.
- Overall Assessment for Purpose 1 The River Soar and associated Flood Zones substantially restrict the potential development of the land. The existing space is largely undeveloped and provides a sense of openness and separation between the settlements. Purpose Score: Strong Contribution
- Guide development form Question 2A. Does the land form defensible boundaries along its edges that defines or would influence the pattern of development or is there an alternative? Answer 2A: Yes. The Birmingham to Leicester railway line to the North and Riverside Way and Sycamore Road to the South act as defensible boundaries to the parcel of the Green Wedge. Although Sycamore Road and Riverside Way are ‘open’ to the North, the presence of the floodplain as well as designated open space helps safeguard these boundaries, and there is a distinct lack of existing development in these areas.
