Green Wedge (b) Between Whetstone, Blaby and Countesthorpe - Parcel B

Purpose Question Assessment

settlement urban fringe which is reflected through the presence of some limited employment uses towards the north end of the parcel (close to the southern boundary of Blaby) and allotments and a sports court on the western edge of Countesthorpe. Generally the further south in the parcel, the more rural and farming based the character becomes as per the outlined key characteristics of this character area. In terms of Green and Blue Infrastructure, as referred to there are numerous hedgerows and trees across the landscape providing a network across the parcel as well as the ponds on the gold course site (a concentration of trees are also present in this area). These also help give a rural feel and provide a sense of undeveloped land between the settlements.

Question 3C. Does the land contain historic assets that should be retained? Answer 3C: No. The land itself does not have any historic assets within it. However, the southeast boundary of the Green Wedge in this area is directly adjacent the Drive (within the primarily residential area of Countesthorpe). All the dwellings on this road are listed buildings, and therefore the Green Wedge adjacent to them could be considered to provide a setting to them.

Question 3D. Do any assets within the land connect to other infrastructure in other areas and help form a continuous green lung from the countryside into urban areas? Answer 3D: The trees and hedgerows present form a network across the land although there is limited connectivity to the surrounding wider area.
