Reserve Sites:

  • GLE031 is part of the former Western Park Golf Course. The wider site is proposed for allocation as part of Leicester City Council's emerging local plan. If both areas were developed this would effectively infill the space between Braunstone Frith and Optimus Point. It is noted however there is already connectivity between the existing built-up areas beyond the boundaries of the green wedge.

The land is currently an expansive open area used for informal recreation and has many mature trees across the site. Development would substantially diminish this characteristic area. Biodiversity will need to be carefully considered as will any potential design in order to mitigate any effects on green infrastructure.

Scoring Impact:

Negative impact on Purpose 1 (Prevent the Merging of Settlements) and Negative impact on Purpose 2 (Guiding Development Form) however this is not considered to be so significant as to affect the scoring of the overall parcel.

Negative impact on Purpose 3 due to likely loss of mature trees and vegetation (Green Lung) and Negative impact on Purpose 4 (Recreation Resource) due to the size of the site and its extensive recreation use.

Overall, the potential impacts are considered to reduce the scoring contribution for Purpose 4: Recreation Resource, although would not be so significant as to affect the scoring for the other purposes.

  • KMU026 occupies a significant area of the southern section of the parcel. The land is currently an agricultural field which falls to the South. The area currently provides substantial openness and also serves as a wider setting for Kirby Muxloe Castle – a Grade I Listed Building and is also adjacent to Bilton Fields conservation area. PROW V77 runs along the West edge of the site adjacent to Bilton Fields Conservation Area
