Summary:

The two parcels forming this green wedge are characteristically different, with Parcel A being a relatively isolated feature whereas Parcel B provides a larger continuous link to other Green Wedges (including into Charnwood Borough) that is secured in part by Rothley Brook running from north to south.

Due to the differing characteristics, the relatively weaker performance of Parcel A is not considered to compromise the larger Parcel B and the role this plays. Parcel A would also be impacted by the proposed housing allocation developments in the neighbouring authority green wedges to which it connects although some wedge designation would remain in these areas as well as potential green infrastructure links. Parcel B performs strongly overall and retains a strategic role in the function of the wider green wedge. Should Parcel A be de-designated then the description of the wedge may require amendment if it would not continue to provide a separation between Glenfield and Beaumont Leys.

Recommendation:

The wedge is justified for retention and no amendments are required at this time subject to consideration of development needs.
