Overall the wedge makes Moderate to Strong contributions to each of the purposes with the exception of Parcel A Purpose 2, which is affected by the presence and pattern of existing development. A number of open space, heritage and biodiversity assets are distributed throughout the parcels that make significant contributions, including Rothley Brook which is a continuous feature running through much of the land.

Several parts of the wedge are connected to the designation in Hinckley and Bosworth Borough and it may be necessary to review the status of the wedge depending on any proposals affecting this.

Notwithstanding the proposed housing allocation on the Western Park Golf Course site within Leicester City, it is not considered this inherently changes the circumstances of the designation and the contributions it makes, and also there has not been an identified need to develop this area.

The wedge is justified for retention and no amendments are required at this time subject to consideration of development needs.
