Green Wedge (d) Between Glenfield, Kirby Muxloe, Kirby Fields and towards Ratby, Groby and Leicester – Parcel C
Recommendation The parcel should be retained subject to consideration of development needs.
Purpose Question Assessment
Castle (a grade 1 listed building and Scheduled Monument). The western section of the parcel separating Kirby Muxloe and Kirby Fields is more formal in character, with an established path running through, maintained grassland and recreation areas. The eastern section of the parcel separating part of Glenfield from Leicester Forest East (and also towards Kirby Muxloe and Kirby Fields) is characterised by the former Western Park golf course, which although disused retains its layout and serves as a fully accessible recreation resource. This is somewhat segregated from the rest of the parcel by the M1 however, and the built development in Glenfield to the north of this area links around to Braunstone Firth in Leicester City to the east and around to the south. Parcel C is considered to make Strong contributions to Purposes 1, 2 and 3 and a Moderate to Strong contribution to Purpose 4.
