Green Wedge (d) Between Glenfield, Kirby Muxloe, Kirby Fields and towards Ratby, Groby and Leicester – Parcel C
Overall Assessment for Purpose 2 The land has strong defensible boundaries which help safeguard the green wedge shape and guide development form. Only minor weaknesses are present.
Purpose Question Assessment
influence the pattern of development or is there an alternative? The M1 motorway to the east and the railway line along the south edge form hard defensible boundaries, restricting development around these locations. The boundary around Kirby Fields is well defined and supported by established vegetation. The conservation area status of this settlement affords additional protection of this boundary in the interests of retaining its character. The remainder of the boundary is also well defined, and protected in parts due to a group TPO designation protecting trees adjacent to the rear boundaries of properties on Oakfield Avenue and Croft Close. There is some permeation into the wedge from the employment premises to the northeast of Kirby Muxloe castle, and from the bowls club, library and playgroup building in the southeast of the wedge, although these are only considered to make a minor detraction to the contribution.
