Helps avoid coalescence and maintains the character and identity of settlements. Question 1A: Are there physical features to prevent the merging of settlements and does the land contribute to maintaining the open and undeveloped character of the land? Answer 1A: No specific physical features are present within the central part of the land to prevent the merging of settlements, however Kirby Muxloe castle located in the northwest of the parcel and also nearby groups of protected trees secure a degree of separation on the settlement edge. The M1 motorway falls within the wedge along the eastern part, providing a clear physical separation from Kirby Muxloe and Kirby Fields to Glenfield and Leicester City. The land in the central part of the parcel otherwise consists of agricultural fields. It is open and undeveloped, providing an expanse of space to distinguish the settlements. The wedge also separates Kirby Muxloe from Kirby Fields, which has a unique identity as set out in its conservation area designation. The parcel includes part of the former Western Park Golf Course, located in the east part of the parcel beyond the M1. The land here includes multiple mature trees, a number of which are protected by Tree Preservation Orders. The land
