Overall Assessment for Green Wedge (c(ii)) Between Whetstone, Enderby, Glen Parva, Braunstone, Blaby, Littlethorpe, Narborough and Cosby (Soar Valley South) (South)
GW(cii) Parcel E Contribution Parcel F Contribution Parcel G Contribution
Purpose 1 Strong Strong Moderate
Purpose 2 Strong Moderate/Strong Moderate
Purpose 3 Moderate/Strong Strong Strong
Purpose 4 Moderate Strong Strong
The parcels perform moderate up to strongly in relation to each of the 4 purposes with the exception of Parcel G, which only makes a weak to moderate contribution in relation to Purpose 2. All parcels fulfil their primary purpose in preventing the merging of settlements and otherwise include a variety of assets or have characteristics to contribute to each of the purposes.
The River Soar flowing through Parcels E and F is a permanent physical feature running through the land supporting the purposes through its Green/Blue Infrastructure. There are some areas of boundary of Parcel G that are less defensible in relation to Purpose 2, however other features are present to guide development form here and the presence of the M1 provides a defined boundary to support a corridor connecting between Parcel F to the South and Parcel D (of ci) to the North.
The wedge is justified for retention and no amendments are required at this time subject to consideration of development needs.
