Green Wedge (c(ii)) Between Whetstone, Enderby, Glen Parva, Braunstone, Blaby, Littlethorpe, Narborough and Cosby (Soar Valley South) (South) – Parcel F
Purpose Question Assessment
Question 1C: Does the land include uses or proposed developments that are incompatible with the Green Wedge policy. Answer 1C: No. There are residential properties located along Warwick Road between Littlethorpe and Whetstone, however these are isolated from either settlement; and there are farm buildings located to the west of Whetstone. These should remain within the green wedge.
- Overall Assessment for Purpose 1 The land hosts large undeveloped areas that provide substantial and visually perceptible gaps between settlements. These are provided additional protection in several areas due to the River Soar and its associated floodplain. Purpose Score: Strong Contribution
- Guide development form Question 2A. Does the land form defensible boundaries along its edges that defines or would influence the pattern of development or is there an alternative? Answer 2A: Yes. The line of the Great Central Railway (footpath Z106) forms a defensible boundary to the east of the parcel. Riverside Way acts as a defined boundary for the northeastern part of Littlethorpe. The Birmingham to Leicester railway line runs from east to west but would not constitute an acceptable alternative boundary for Enderby.
