BRANDS POSITIONS

1. Brands will be recorded by position
2. a.Each position shall be a separate brand.
3. b.Positions are available on cattle, horses, hogs, bison and sheep.
2. Cattle positions
3. a.There are 6 positions available for cattle brands:
4. i.Left or right hip
5. ii.Left or right rib
6. iii.Left or right shoulder
7. b.Shoulder and rib brands are evaluated for conflicts together.
8. c.Jaw and neck brands on cattle are reserved for use by the Department of Livestock Animal Health and Food Safety Division.
3. Horse positions
4. a.There are 8 positions available for horse brands:
5. i.Left or right thigh
6. ii.Left or right shoulder
7. iii.Left or right jaw
8. iv.Left or right neck
4. Hogs
5. a.Hog brands will be issued upon request
5. Bison positions
6. a.There are 4 primary positions available for bison brands:
7. i.Left or right hip
8. ii.Left or right rib
6. Sheep
7. a.Paint brands will be issued for the following positions:
8. i.Left or right rib
9. ii.Left or right hip
10. iii.Left or right shoulder
11. iv.Back
12. b.Hot iron brands for sheep will be issued upon request

BRAND FORMATS

1. Brands containing multiple characters must be oriented in one of the following manners:
2. a.Horizontally
3. b.Vertically
4. c.Diagonally (either direction)
2. Characters in a brand must be spaced in a manner consistent with being a single brand and cannot be confused as multiple brands.
3. “Tumbling” characters will not be allowed.
