As Clerk of this meeting, I publicly announce that in compliance with the provisions of the “Open Public Meetings Act” adequate notice of this meeting of the Jackson Township Committee has been advertised in the manner prescribed by law. This statement shall be entered into the Minutes of this meeting.
MAYOR'S GOLF TOURNAMENT:
COMMITTEEMAN KAFTON: He asked this be carried to the July 26th Committee Meeting. He also asked that Softball (Bill Reva) be added on to this for the next meeting.
COMMITTEEMAN BRODERICK: He thanked everyone for coming out in such bad weather. He thanked all the individuals involved who put together another very successful 4th of July celebration. He thanked Anne Alberta, Recreation Director, and her staff along with the Public Works Department. He also thanked the Police Department and EMS for making the park safe and secure.
COMMITTEEMAN KAFTON: He too wanted to thank everyone involved in the 4^{th} of July fireworks celebration. He thanked Stop & Shop for donating $11,000 for the purchase of the fireworks. He went on to say that he and Mayor Giblin went to a meeting today at the Brick MUA. Bradley Campbell from the DEP was at that meeting to announce the signing of the C-1 category. The C-1 category as of today has been signed and is in place. This is something that Jackson and all the other towns along the Metedeconk have been pushing for.
COMMITTEEMAN REILLY: He began by saying that he echoes the sentiments of Committeeman Kafton regarding the C-1 designation. He then stated that there is an ordinance on tonight for second reading placing a question on the ballot regarding our open space trust fund. He thinks it is great to see the public involved and he hopes a lot of people come out and he encourages them to vote in the affirmative.
DEPUTY MAYOR GRISANTI: He began by saying that he agrees with his fellow Committeeman that the 4th of July this year was great. Everyone looked like they were having a good time. He thanked Stop & Shop for sponsoring this event and said it is nice to see our commercial establishments supporting the community. He thanked Anne Alberta, Recreation Director, for doing an excellent job and all the Township employees involved. He then went on to speak about the ordinance Committeeman Reilly talked about regarding open space. He strongly urged the public to support the increase for our open space funding. They have been very aggressive about purchasing open space and would like to stay on that path, but they need the funds to do it. He personally thinks it will be very well supported in November and he asked everyone to spread the word and vote “yes”.
MAYOR GIBLIN: He stated that they are pleased that the State of New Jersey has taken a positive step to protect our water supply today and in the future. The primary reason that Metedeconk is so important is because of years of over-development and uncontrolled growth down stream. This has made protecting the vital resource upstream essential. Where very little pollution of the river has occurred in Jackson they are taking the responsibility of protecting it seriously. It makes good environmental and economic sense to bring this watershed under the important protections of the Category 1 designation. He thanked Governor McGreevey and Commissioner Campbell for their commitment to protect our natural resources. It is an exciting step in Jackson and he thinks that they can develop wisely, economically and at the same time protect the environment from uncontrolled and unregulated residential or commercial growth. He thanked Denise Garner and Scott Najarian for attending the ceremony this afternoon.
