WHEREAS, the Jackson Township Board of Education has officially announced that it has authorized the institution of litigation against the State of New Jersey and the New Jersey Department of Education alleging inequitable and unlawful application of the State School Funding Formula as it applies to the Jackson Township School District; and

WHEREAS, the Township Council recognizes that the State Funding Formula has been utilized to decimate education aid to our local school district; and

WHEREAS, despite repeated attempts to resolve the unconscionable cuts of State Aid to the Jackson Township School District, the New Jersey Department of Education, Governor Murphy and the State Legislator have failed to resolve this situation; and

WHEREAS, the failure of the State of New Jersey and the current administration to equitably distribute school funding throughout the State of New Jersey has resulted in a financial crisis for the students of the Jackson Township School District; and

WHEREAS, despite repeated petitions seeking relief, the State of New Jersey has turned a blind eye to the concerns of our municipality; and

WHEREAS, as a result, the Jackson Township Board of Education has no choice but to pursue a legal remedy from the inequitable application of the school funding formula as it effects Jackson Township; and

WHEREAS, the Township Council wishes to support the Jackson Township Board of Education and commends them for taking such action.
