NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the Township Council of the Township of Jackson, County of Ocean, State of New Jersey, as follows:

WHEREAS, in N.J.S.A. 11A:4-1.3, enacted on February 4, 2021, provides that the Civil Service Commission shall exempt from the requirement to take an examination for an entry level law enforcement position, a person who has successfully completed a full basic course for police officer's training course at a school approved and authorized by the New Jersey Police Training Commission; and

WHEREAS, this statute permits a municipal police department to hire an individual exempt from the requirement to take an examination for an entry level law enforcement position upon the adoption of an Ordinance by the governing body authorizing such hiring and the adoption of a conflict of interest and nepotism policy, and

WHEREAS, the Township has previously adopted a conflict of interest and nepotism policy in accordance with its Employee Policies and Procedures Manual; and

WHEREAS, the Township of Jackson wishes to amend the Township Code to permit the hiring of entry level law enforcement officers without an examination in accordance with N.J.S.A. 11A:4-1.3.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Township Council of the Township of Jackson, County of Ocean, State of New Jersey, as follows:
