TOWNSHIP'S ACCEPTANCE/RECEIPT OF $17,497.00 FROM THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY THROUGH THE COUNTY OF OCEAN EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2022 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2023

WHEREAS, the New Jersey Legislature previously adopted the Alliance to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in which funds would be made available through counties to establish and maintain Municipal Alliance Committees; and

WHEREAS, Jackson Township has established a Municipal Alliance Committee and is in need of funding through the County of Ocean, in particular, the Ocean County Board of Health; and

WHEREAS, both the Board and the Township wish to enter into an agreement whereby the Township will receive from the Board funds not to exceed $17,497.00 based upon terms and conditions set forth in the attached agreement; and

WHEREAS, it is the desire of this governing body to act to approve said contract in order that the Township may receive said $17,497.00 to fund its Municipal Alliance Committee to comply with all of the appropriate State and Federal regulations.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Township Council of the Township of Jackson, County of Ocean, State of New Jersey as follows:

1. That the Township Council hereby authorizes the Mayor and Clerk to execute a Municipal Alliance Agreement with the Ocean County Board of Health in order that the Township may receive $17,497.00 ($4,374.25 Cash Match and $13,122.75 In-Kind) for its Municipal Alliance Committee effective July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023 in accordance with the terms of that agreement and all appropriate State and Federal Regulations.
2. That upon the adoption of the within resolution, the Clerk is authorized and directed to forward a certified copy of it along with the executed Municipal Alliance Agreement to the Ocean County Board of Health, Jackson Township Municipal Alliance Committee, Municipal Administrator, Chief Financial Officer, and any other interested parties.

TITLE: AUTHORIZE THE SUBMISSION AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE CY 2022 “DISTRICTED DRIVING CRACKDOWN - U DRIVE U TEXT U PAY” FROM THE NEW JERSEY DIVISION OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY IN THE AMOUNT OF $7,000.00

WHEREAS, distracted driving is a dangerous epidemic on America’s roadways and in 2018 alone 2,841 people were killed in distracted driving crashes and an estimated 400,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving a distracted driver; and

WHEREAS, the Jackson Township Police Department is seeking authorization to apply for and accept the CY 2022 “Distracted Driving Crackdown - U Drive, U Text, U Pay.” Grant commencing April 1, 2022 through April 30, 2022 from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety; and

WHEREAS, the State has awarded a grant to the Township of Jackson in the amount of $7,000.00 which will pay for 100 hours of overtime enforcement during the four (4) week mobilization period with a maximum rate to be reimbursed in the amount of $70.00 per hour; and
