Doctoral degree is considered a terminal degree as the highest degree that may be obtained in a specific area. Degree programs may have specific starting points, either from a bachelor's degree or from a master's degree. Because of this, they may have different minimum hours depending on the starting point. Programs that require a master's degree for entry will require fewer credit hours for completion. Doctoral degrees must be completed within a maximum of 10 years of initial enrollment. Some programs may require completion in a shorter period of time, consult the programs for any differences in this requirement."
