"text": "Urban Heat Island is an urban area that has a higher temperatures compared to the surrounding rural areas. For this project, I mapped out the urban heat island in Lexington, KY. I mapped the land cover and the surface urban heat island to assess the correlation between them. I found that Lexington is a unique place because there is a little part of the downtown area where there is rarely UHI and the overall structure of the UHI is contained within the development limited areas. What I learned is that Urban Heat Island actually exists in essentially all locations with development and there are many ways to decrease the intensity of the condition through smart construction and natural conservation.",

In addition to anthropogenic carbon dioxide releases, water and air pollution, climate change, high rate of natural disasters, the urban heat island is a man-made phenomenon with potentially dangerous impacts. The urban heat island is phenomena where an area is significantly warmer than its surrounding rural areas, primarily due to conversion of naturally vegetated area to areas of impervious development. UHIs occur due to increases in urban infrastructure that drives increases in the amount of solar energy stored in the daytime and subsequently released during the nighttime hours, causing increases in local air and"
