            "text": "Substantially all other full-time University employees are required by law to participate in the Kentucky Employees Retirement System (KERS), a cost sharing multiple-employer, public employee retirement system. KERS provides retirement benefits based on an employee's final average salary and number of years of service. Benefits are subject to certain reductions if the employee retires before reaching age sixty-five, or less than twenty-seven years of service. The plan also provides for disability retirement, death and survivor benefits and medical insurance."

Each employee covered by KERS is entitled to a monthly benefit based upon their months of service multiplied by the average of 5 full fiscal years of salary (highest 5 or last 5 based on date of participation) upon attainment of KERS specified age (or age and service combinations). Participants have a fully vested interest after the completion of 60 months of service, 12 of which are current service."

            "text": "Retirement benefits are determined as a percent of the employee's final 5-year average compensation times the employee's years of service. Employees hired prior to September 1, 2008 can retire at any age with 27 years of service or at age 65 with 4 years of service. Employees hired after September 1, 2008 can retire when their age plus years of service equal 87 (must be at least age 57) or at age 65 with 5 years of service. Employees are eligible for service-related disability benefits regardless of length of service. Five years of service is required for nonservice-related disability eligibility. Disability benefits are determined based on your participation date. Death benefits are based on age, months of service and whether you were active or retired."
