A combination of revenue sources funds the University's investment in capital improvements, including appropriations provided by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. In fiscal year 2015, the Commonwealth provided no capital appropriations to the University. State capital appropriations plus federal sources play an important role in the University's efforts to address deferred maintenance projects."

            "text": "During fiscal year 2015, Kentucky State University started design of several construction projects supported by Federal funds: Old Federal Bldg. Restoration / Renovation Phase II (Aquaculture KY River Interpretive Center); and Renovate Atwood Agriculture Research Bldg. Privatized Construction of student housing was cancelled. The University completed a roof replacement project for the Central Chiller Plant, Central Boiler Plant, Jordan Warehouse, Alumni Stadium Athletic Bldg. and Russell Court Apartments. In addition, Mechanical System improvements were made to the Central Boiler Plant controls system and coal recording equipment."

            "text": "The execution of the University's capital plan is contingent upon sufficient funding from the Commonwealth. The Kentucky General Assembly during the 2014 regular session approved state bond funding for one project out of the University submitted Six Year Capital Plan. State Bond Funds of $10,400,000 were approved for \"Repair Boilers and Aging Distribution Lines\". This project will replace boilers and repair a portion of the existing steam plant system. Engineers started design on the Boiler and Steam Distribution system. The project is proceeding with Phase I replacement of approximately half of the coal/steam system with a gas fired, high efficiency hot water distribution system. During Phase II the remaining coal/steam system will be replaced with a request for additional support from the state of $9,443,000."
