This means that institutions are under no obligation to assure the success of students with disabilities in higher education, only to assure that such students have the same opportunities as other students to be successful on the basis of their intellectual abilities and academic achievements. Although the university is charged with this obligation, it is the student’s responsibility to attend all class meetings of each course for which they have registered unless excused in writing by the instructor, department head, or dean of the college in which the student is enrolled. A student who has unexcused absences is subject to the attendance policy outline in the university catalog and in the course syllabus."
