"text": "Concerning Research and Scholarly Activity Dr. Sluss has published four articles in peer-reviewed journals since her promotion to associate professor, giving her a total of seven peer-reviewed publications. In addition, Dr. Sluss has been actively involved in the writing of grants and she has a number of these grants funded. She has also included a large number of KSU students in her research projects or mentored projects of their design (14 undergraduates in BIO 410 and 4 MES graduate students capstone projects -- and counting). She has made ten presentations at conferences concerning her research, six of which occurred after her promotion to Associate Professor. She has attended 13 summer workshops which have added to her ecological knowledge and been applied in her courses, and she has led three summer workshops for middle and high school teachers. We feel that her research and scholarly activity easily satisfies the requirements to be promoted to Professor."

This includes being the unit coordinator for biology, the division scholarship committee chair, a member of the recruitment and retention committee, and she serves as the faculty advisor for the Green Society at KSU. She has a long history of service to the Faculty Senate and its Committees although she is currently not a member. Until recently, she served on the board of Cooperative Center for Study Abroad as one of two KSU representatives. Outside the university, Dr. Sluss is involved in a number of activities which share her expertise with the community. She is currently the Vice-President of the Kentucky Conservation Committee, a member of the Salt River Watershed Watch, and a member of the Education and Diversity group of the Society for Freshwater Science. We feel her service to KSU and beyond qualifies her for promotion to Professor."
