            "text": "As the department chair, I was most appreciative for the rapport that he established with students. They spoke of his personable manner and his ability to communicate with them and elicit their participation in the class. He wrote several letters of recommendation for English majors and brought to my attention particular students who might be interested in majoring in English. With Dr. Moffett's mentoring, two of those students from his classes actually did declare English as their major. As an academic advisor, his work was equally excellent, as he always took time with each student, thoroughly preparing them for their academic programs. He also became a certified Master Advisor, providing information and guidance to all faculty advisors in our department."

He was an active citizen of the department, attending departmental events, serving as a judge for our undergraduate writing contests and participating in department workshops on General Education and assessment. When one of our part-time faculty experienced a medical emergency, I needed a faculty member immediately to substitute teach the class; Dr. Moffett volunteered readily, and because I had such confidence in him, I did not have to give that class a second thought. As expected, he enabled the students in that class to complete the semester successfully."
