It was decided that each member would select three top choices, which would be communicated to the QEP Leader and whose job it was to identify the top three overall and share these findings with the group at its next meeting. On February 22, 2017, the top three were announced to the joint committee, and it was determined that the top three were so similar in topic that it might be more profitable to invite their authors to join the Committee and all work together on an overall approach rather than select only one topic. Indeed, there were about five proposals that all dealt in one way or another with the idea of cultural competency or cultural literacy. In a February 26, 2017, email sent to the authors of these proposals, the QEP Leader encouraged their joining the group going forward."

"text": "Subsequent meetings of this enlarged committee on March 23, March 30, and April 13, 2017, found the group refining the topic down to “global citizenship” and beginning to consider ways in which this idea could be reified and implemented. Conversations included possible curricular development, especially in lower-division, general education courses. Considerable dialogue was also devoted to proposing study away projects or courses, particularly since this aspect of the University had been dormant in recent years. One committee member had recently been working on study abroad opportunities for students in the Honors program, and she was eventually chosen to lead Phase II of the project."

"text": "During summer 2017, the new QEP Leader named a Co-Leader (both of whom retired after the 2017-18 academic year). These two faculty members generated a draft of a QEP project on the concept on cultural competency. This document was posted to the KSU website, and feedback was solicited. The feedback was mixed, with some respondents feeling like the plan needed more development. Others felt the plan did well to pick a topic that had already been a subject of study at the University in areas such as Education. During this time, the two new QEP Co-Leaders, as well as the Phase I Leader, all attended the SACSCOC meeting in July to gain further insight into the development of the QEP."

"text": "At the Encampment held in January of 2018, attended by all KSU faculty and staff, the current QEP Committee chair proposed that the concept of \"global citizenship\" be broadened to include the premises of Joseph E. Aoun's Robot-Proof: Higher Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, following President Brown's presentation of an overview of Aoun's theories. Since Auon names cultural agility as one of the key \"literacies\" in his text, this approach was seen as a positive direction in which to broaden and develop the initial QEP concept. An augmented committee, composed of faculty, administrators, and staff, including a number of members from the previous committee, began work on developing the broadened concept. The Vice President of Graduate Studies led the group through a number of meetings where three general areas were identified for exploration: in addition to the cultural competence that was the initial focus of the QEP, the group added transferable skills and Design Thinking. A literature review was undertaken in these areas by smaller groups within the Committee. During summer 2018, the group narrowed the topic down to focus on Design Thinking, which offered a concrete pedagogy to reify Aoun's general idea about the importance of teaching \"Systems Thinking\" in higher education. Aside from feedback generated by this group, which was composed of faculty, staff, administration, and student representation, feedback was solicited from chairs and deans at the fall 2018 Academic Affairs retreat, held on August 9, 2018."

This sequence would eventually supersede the current required three-course sequence in Integrative Studies.
