COURSE DESCRIPTION – COURSE RATIONALE: The purpose of this course is to facilitate the student's exploration of policy formulation, implementation, and modification in the United States. A model of policymaking will be analyzed in core components of the health care policy and planning, including the sociopolitical and economic context of health and health seeking behaviors will be emphasized. Healthcare policy and planning at the local, state, federal, and international levels will be explored. Ethical dimensions of public policy formulation and implementation will be highlighted. The roles of the nursing profession and individual nurses as they relate to the development and implementation of health policy will be investigated.
