It provides retirement, disability, medical and death benefits to plan members and beneficiaries. The State of New Jersey P.E.R.S. and P.F.R.S. programs were established as of January 1, 1955 and July 1, 1944, respectively. The programs were established under the provisions of N.J.S.A.43:15A and N.J.S.A.43:16A which assigns authority to establish and amend benefit provisions to the plan's board of trustees. P.E.R.S. and P.F.R.S. issues a publicly available financial report that includes financial statements and required supplementary information.
